Terms & Conditions

Last updated 08/19/2026

1. Overview

These Terms and Conditions (the “Agreement”) govern the purchase, participation, and cancellation of all lessons, classes, and educational programs offered by Hello French through www.hellofrenchnyc.com (the “Website”).

For purposes of this Agreement, “Services” means all private lessons, group courses, and special educational programs offered by Hello French. “Group Course” means any cohort based educational program delivered to multiple Students according to a scheduled curriculum. “Student” means the individual enrolled in or participating in the applicable Service. “Materials” means all educational and supplemental content provided in connection with the Services, including digital books, worksheets, assignments, lesson recaps, shared whiteboards, recordings, presentations, and other instructional resources.

"Digital Products" means any standalone digital goods sold by Hello French independent of enrollment in a Service, including but not limited to Le Bouquin, Le Cahier, Hello Pronunciation, the Paris Travel Guide, posters, and similar downloadable or digital content.

By purchasing or enrolling in any Hello French lesson or course, you agree to be bound by this Agreement, including all policies referenced herein. “Hello French” refers to HelloFrench LLC and its instructors, contractors, and representatives.

2. Booking and Payment

All Classes must be purchased in advance through the Website. Enrollment is confirmed only once payment has been successfully completed.

Accepted payment methods include major credit cards and approved third-party payment providers. When available, installment or payment plan options may be offered through third-party platforms such as Shop Pay or PayPal and are subject to those providers' terms and approval processes. Hello French does not control third-party payment decisions or disputes.

Failure to complete payment, chargebacks, or reversed payments may result in immediate suspension or termination of access to Classes and Materials.

Enrollment constitutes a commitment to pay the full tuition for the program. If a Student elects an installment or payment plan, the installment schedule is a payment arrangement for the total tuition and does not convert the program into a month to month subscription. Withdrawal, non attendance, or removal from the program after the applicable cancellation period does not cancel remaining amounts owed, except where required by applicable law.

Private Lesson Booking
Private lessons are purchased for one (1) Student unless otherwise expressly agreed in writing by Hello French. Students wishing to participate in lessons with an additional person must contact classes@hellofrenchnyc.com before purchasing. Additional pricing or terms may apply.

Following purchase, the Student will be asked to complete a questionnaire regarding their French level, learning goals, preferences, and availability. The questionnaire must be submitted within seven (7) calendar days of purchase so that Hello French can begin the teacher matching process.

Hello French will use the information provided by the Student to identify an appropriate instructor based on the Student’s stated needs and the availability of Hello French instructors. Students will generally receive their teacher match and applicable booking information within ten (10) calendar days after submitting the completed questionnaire.

Teacher matching is based on instructor availability and compatibility with the information provided by the Student. Hello French cannot guarantee a particular instructor, schedule, teaching style, or availability.

If Hello French is unable to provide a viable instructor or schedule after reasonable efforts to explore available alternatives with the Student, the Student may choose either a full Hello French credit for the amount paid or a refund of the applicable private lesson purchase.

3. Class Formats and Inclusions

Private Lessons
Private lessons consist of sixty (60) minute live online sessions with a Hello French instructor. Lessons may include personalized instruction, pronunciation and grammar feedback, tailored exercises, cultural recommendations, and follow up Materials when applicable. The content and structure of each lesson may vary based on the Student’s level, goals, participation, and instructional needs. Specific progress timelines, proficiency levels, or learning outcomes are not guaranteed.

Group Courses
Group courses consist of live Zoom sessions conducted over a defined schedule, typically eight 2-hour sessions or 90-minute sessions unless otherwise stated. Enrollment includes access to a private Google Classroom containing lesson recaps, shared whiteboards, assignments, and curated cultural resources.

Group Courses may include individualized feedback, corrections, recommendations, and opportunities for Students to ask questions and receive guidance from instructors within a group learning environment. The amount and nature of individual attention may vary depending on class size, Student participation, instructional needs, course structure, and available class time. Enrollment in a Group Course does not guarantee any specific amount of one on one instruction.

4. Instructors and Substitutions

Private Lessons
Private lesson instructors are matched by Hello French based on the Student’s completed questionnaire, stated goals and availability, instructor availability, and other relevant instructional considerations.

Hello French may assign a different qualified instructor when reasonably necessary due to instructor illness, unavailability, scheduling changes, emergencies, or other operational circumstances. When practicable, Hello French will work with the Student to identify a reasonable alternative.

If Hello French is unable to provide the purchased private lesson Services after reasonable efforts to identify a viable instructor or scheduling alternative, the Student may choose either a full Hello French credit for the unused portion of the purchase or a refund for the unused portion.

Schedule and Format Changes
Hello French reserves the right to reasonably change the date, time, instructor, instructional platform, or format of an individual session when necessary due to scheduling, operational, technical, or other circumstances. Hello French will provide Students with reasonable notice whenever practicable and will make reasonable efforts to minimize disruption to the course.

Group Courses
The anticipated lead instructor, guest instructors, instructional structure, and other relevant course details may be identified on the applicable sales page. Hello French may use multiple qualified instructors within a Group Course or program.

Hello French reserves the right to substitute or adjust instructor participation when reasonably necessary due to illness, emergencies, scheduling conflicts, availability, or operational needs. Instructor substitutions or adjustments will be made using qualified instructors and do not, by themselves, constitute grounds for a refund, credit, or transfer.

5. Cancellations, Refunds and Credits

Minimum Enrollment and Course Cancellation
Group Courses may be subject to minimum enrollment requirements. Hello French reserves the right, at its discretion, to cancel a Group Course due to insufficient enrollment up to twenty four (24) hours before the scheduled start of the first class.

If Hello French cancels an entire Group Course for insufficient enrollment, enrolled Students may choose either (a) a full refund of amounts paid to Hello French for the canceled Group Course, or (b) a transfer or credit in the full amount paid toward another eligible Hello French Group Course or program.

Hello French may also cancel or postpone a Group Course due to instructor unavailability, emergencies, operational circumstances, or other circumstances that make it impracticable to deliver the course as scheduled. When an entire Group Course is canceled by Hello French and no reasonable replacement or rescheduled course is provided, Students will be offered a full refund or a transfer or credit, at their choice.

Private Lessons
Except as expressly provided in this Agreement, private lesson purchases are final and nonrefundable.

Students may request to reschedule a private lesson by emailing both their instructor and classes@hellofrenchnyc.com at least twenty four (24) hours before the scheduled start time.

Rescheduling is subject to instructor availability and is not guaranteed. Any rescheduled lesson must take place within fourteen (14) calendar days of the original scheduled appointment.

Lessons canceled or rescheduled with fewer than twenty four (24) hours’ notice, missed lessons, and no shows are forfeited and are not eligible for a refund, credit, make up lesson, or further rescheduling.

If Hello French is unable to provide a viable instructor or schedule after reasonable efforts to explore available alternatives, the Student may choose a Hello French credit or refund as provided in Sections 2 and 4 of this Agreement.

Group Courses
Group course cancellations follow this policy before the classe:

• Cancellations made fourteen (14) or more days before the course start date are eligible for an eighty percent (80%) refund or full credit toward a future cohort within the calendar year.

• Cancellations made seven (7) to thirteen (13) days before the course start date are eligible for a fifty percent (50%) refund or credit.

• Cancellations made fewer than seven (7) days before the course start date are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Once a group course has begun, no refunds, credits, or transfers will be issued for any reason.

All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to classes@hellofrenchnyc.com.

Refund Processing
Approved refunds will be issued to the original payment method within fourteen (14) calendar days of approval.

Transfers
Enrollment in a Service is non-transferable. Students may not gift, sell, or transfer their enrollment, access, or remaining private lesson package to another individual.

6. Lesson Expiration and Scheduling

Private Lesson Validity
Students must submit their teacher matching questionnaire within seven (7) calendar days of purchase.

Once a teacher match has been provided, the Student’s first private lesson must take place within fourteen (14) calendar days of receiving the teacher match, subject to instructor availability.

Private lesson packages must be completed within the following timeframes:

  • Single lesson: within fourteen (14) calendar days of receiving the teacher match
  • Four lesson package: within seven (7) weeks of the first completed lesson
  • Eight lesson package: within twelve (12) weeks of the first completed lesson

Students are responsible for booking their lessons with sufficient time to complete the package within the applicable validity period. Instructor availability near the end of a package validity period does not automatically extend the expiration date.

Unused lessons remaining after the applicable validity period are forfeited and are not eligible for a refund, credit, extension, or rescheduling, except where otherwise agreed by Hello French in writing or required by applicable law.

Scheduling
Private lessons are booked through the scheduling method or booking page provided by the assigned instructor. Students are responsible for confirming the date and time of each booking and using the lesson access information provided through the applicable scheduling or video conferencing platform.

Private lesson packages are intended to follow a reasonably consistent schedule. Schedule changes may be accommodated based on instructor availability but are not guaranteed.

7. Class Access, Recordings and Participant Consent

Group Courses are conducted live through Zoom or another designated instructional platform. Students are responsible for maintaining reliable internet access and compatible devices.

Certain live sessions may be recorded for educational review. Recordings may capture a Student’s name, image, voice, chat contributions, or participation. By participating in a session identified as being recorded, the Student acknowledges and consents to being included in the recording for this educational purpose.

When available, recordings will be posted through the applicable course platform and will generally remain accessible for thirty (30) days following the end of the course unless otherwise stated on the applicable course page.

Recordings are provided solely for the personal educational use of enrolled Students and may not be downloaded, recorded, copied, shared, reproduced, posted, distributed, or made available to any third party.

Hello French does not guarantee that every session will be recorded and is not responsible for recordings that are unavailable due to technical failures, platform outages, corrupted files, or circumstances beyond its reasonable control.

8.  Eligibility and Language Requirements

Enrollment is limited to individuals eighteen (18) years of age or older.

Beginner courses are taught primarily in English. Students must have sufficient English proficiency to follow instructions, participate in discussions, and engage with course materials.

9. Student Conduct

Hello French is committed to maintaining a respectful and inclusive learning environment.

Unacceptable behavior includes, but is not limited to:

  • Disruptive conduct that interferes with instruction or participation
  • Disrespectful, discriminatory, harassing, or aggressive behavior
  • Repeated failure to follow instructor guidance or classroom norms
  • Inappropriate use of chat functions, messaging platforms, or shared spaces
  • Recording, photographing, or taking screenshots of instructors or other Students without authorization
  • Sharing another Student’s personal information, comments, images, recordings, or course participation outside the learning environment without permission
  • Sharing course access links, passwords, login credentials, recordings, or Materials with individuals who are not enrolled
  • Harassing, soliciting, or repeatedly contacting other Students through course related platforms in an inappropriate or unwanted manner
  • Redistributing private conversations or discussions from course related spaces without authorization

Students are expected to respect the privacy of information voluntarily shared by other participants during live classes and course related discussions.

10. Third Party Platforms and Privacy

Hello French may use third party platforms and services to deliver Classes, Materials, communications, assignments, recordings, or other course features. These may include services such as Zoom, Google Classroom, and other educational or communication platforms identified for a particular course.

Participation in certain optional community or communication features may make a Student’s name, profile information, contact information, or other information visible to fellow participants depending on the Student’s account settings and the functionality of the applicable third party platform.

Students are responsible for reviewing and managing their privacy settings on third party platforms. Use of third party services may also be subject to the applicable provider’s own terms of service and privacy practices.

Hello French is not responsible for the independent privacy practices, security practices, availability, or functionality of third party platforms.

11. Intellectual Property

All Materials provided by Hello French are proprietary and intended solely for the enrolled Student’s personal, non-commercial use.

Students may not record, copy, reproduce, distribute, share, repost, or publicly display any portion of Hello French content. Unauthorized use constitutes a breach of this Agreement and may result in removal from current or future offerings and potential legal action.

12. Digital Products

Digital Products are sold for the purchaser's personal, non-commercial use only. Due to the nature of digital delivery, all Digital Product sales are final and non-refundable once access has been granted or the file has been delivered, except where required by applicable law.

Digital Products may not be copied, reproduced, redistributed, resold, or shared with any third party. Unauthorized use constitutes a breach of this Agreement.

13. Educational Disclaimer

Hello French makes no guarantees regarding learning outcomes, fluency levels, or results. Progress depends on individual effort, participation, and prior experience.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Hello French is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount paid by the Student for the applicable Class.

14. Force Majeure

Hello French is not responsible for delays or disruptions caused by events beyond its reasonable control, including natural disasters, public health emergencies, governmental actions, internet outages, or instructor illness. Reasonable efforts will be made to provide alternative arrangements when feasible.

15. Communication and Platform Use

By enrolling, Students agree to receive transactional and course related communications reasonably necessary to administer and deliver the purchased Service.

16. Amendments

Hello French reserves the right to modify this Agreement at any time. Continued participation following updates constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

17. Governing Law

This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to this Agreement or the Services shall be resolved through binding arbitration administered in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association, conducted in New York, New York, rather than in court, except that either party may bring an individual claim in small claims court where eligible. There is no right or authority for any dispute to be brought as a class, collective, or representative action.
